the final supper

Tonight, just hours ago, a few fellow PCT's and I shared our last dinner in the U.S. It was beautiful. I ordered a fully loaded deep dish pizza, and amidst our excitedly stimulating buzz of pre-service conversation (mostly centering around our fears, anxieties, worries, concerns, and things we've heard from a friend of a friend whose sister's brother-in-law served in the PC), I tried my hardest to make every cheesy bite of sweet doughy goodness count for all that's it's worth. Why? Because when asked whether pizza is a popular dish in Macedonia, those who have gone before reply, "They try..."

Later, as we walked up M and Wisconsin avenues here in Georgetown (think: 5th avenue of Wash, DC), we tried to admire the current fashions blaring at us from boutique windows of Prada and Gucci, but remarked to each other, "Thankfully, I don't have any room left in my suitcase!" And I thought to myself, "Self, (because that's what I call myself) it's kind of unbelievable that this strangely attractive array of fabrics and styles will be nearly obsolete upon your return to this remarkably fashion-conscious and materialistic country." And then we all went into CVS and bought candy corn, candles, and patriotic keychains to bestow upon our ambiguously hospitable future homestay hosts...

Now, I better go eat some M&M's before it's too late! :)

Our nation's capitol

on Friday of this week, I'm scheduled to be driven to the above mentioned location to rendevous with the fellow members of MAK10. On Sunday, God-willing, we will fly to Vienna, and shortly thereafter, arrive in Skopje, Macedonia. Stay tuned.
